How does laser hair reduction work?

At Elevate Wellness Med Spa, the state-of-the-art hair removal laser allows the team to treat every skin type, from very light to very dark, with minimal discomfort.

The science behind laser hair removal is to laser the hair follicle when it is actively growing. Treating the hair follicle with the laser over the course of treatments diminishes the body’s ability to nourish and grow that hair follicle.

How do I prepare for a laser hair reduction treatment?

You must not tweeze or wax 3-4 weeks before your treatment. Discontinue topical prescription medications seven days before treatment, like Differin®, Retin-A, and TriLumen.

Make sure to shave with a brand-new razor the night before your treatment – this helps with exfoliation and minimizes discomfort. Stop all tanning (sun and spray) and keep the area being treated out of the sun.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

Before every Elevate Wellness Med Spa appointment, the team asks you to list your medications. They want you to tell them everything regarding supplements, vitamins, hormones, creams, and patches because some can make you sensitive to light.

On the day of your appointment, your nurse cleans the area, applies a cooling gel, gives you protective eyewear, and delivers the treatment.

You may feel cool air on your skin and hear a beep before each laser pulse. Some areas of the body are more sensitive, so inform the nurse if you need to rest.

After treatment, your nurse will clean the skin, remove any gel, apply sunscreen to the area, and send you on your way. If you have your face done, you can bring your makeup and apply it post-treatment.

What is laser hair reduction post-care like?

You must keep the area out of the sun during your treatments. Sometimes, hair continues to come out of the hair follicle post-treatment, which is normal. Over the course of treatments, your hair will thin and become finer in texture.
